John Deere 1023E / 1025R ROPS retaining bolts may break — rollover protection compromised

John Deere · 2017–2017 · Published

Certain 1023E and 1025R compact utility tractors sold March–October 2017 may have ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) retaining bolts that were over-torqued during assembly, stretching them and increasing the chance they will break. If a retaining bolt breaks during a rollover, the ROPS may fail to maintain the operator's zone of protection, exposing the operator to serious injury.

Details

## Affected machines John Deere 1023E and 1025R Compact Utility Tractors sold new from March 2017 through October 2017. The complete affected serial number range is published by John Deere at https://www.deere.com/en/parts-and-service/recall-information/ (search for the 1023E-1025R-ROPSbolt-Recall program). The serial number is located on the frame, front right side of the tractor, near the engine. ## Issue Some ROPS retaining bolts were over-torqued during assembly and have stretched. Stretched bolts have a measurably higher risk of breaking, and a broken ROPS bolt could allow the rollover protective structure to fail during a rollover event — defeating the entire purpose of the ROPS. ## What to do 1. Locate the serial number on the right side of the frame, near the front right tire. 2. Check whether your serial number is in the affected range using the JD recall page above. 3. If it is, contact your authorized John Deere dealer to schedule the free recall repair. The repair is at no cost regardless of warranty status. 4. Until the repair is performed on an affected machine, operate with extra caution; avoid steep slopes and high-risk maneuvers where rollover risk is elevated. ## Source U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall Alert (2018 — sister recall to the 2024 brake bellcrank recall covered in TNB02600002). Voluntary recall by John Deere in cooperation with CPSC and Health Canada.
