Kubota · 2018–2019 · Published

Kubota recalls about 3,850 model year 2018-2019 ZD100 Series gasoline-powered residential zero-turn mowers (Z121SKH-48, Z122EBR-48, Z125EBR-54, Z125SKH-54). The throttle cable can make contact with internal electric wiring, posing a fire hazard. No incidents reported at time of recall (preventive). Sold July 2018 to January 2019 for between $5,000 and $6,000. Owners should stop using and contact a Kubota dealer for free inspection and repair.

Details

## Affected machines About 3,850 Kubota ZD100 Series gasoline-powered residential zero-turn mowers built for **model years 2018 and 2019**. The recalled units are orange and black with the model on the side of the mower and the data plate (with serial and model numbers) on the lower frame. ### Affected models and serial-number ranges | Model | Begin SN | End SN | Engine | |---|---|---|---| | Z121SKH-48 | 31302 | 32882 | Kohler | | Z122EBR-48 | 21408 | 22070 | Briggs & Stratton | | Z125EBR-54 | 16242 | 16547 | Briggs & Stratton | | Z125SKH-54 | 29458 | 31138 | Kohler | Serial-number suffix conventions: **SKH** = Kohler engine, **EBR** = Briggs & Stratton EFI, with deck size suffix (-48, -54). ## Issue The throttle cable can shift during operation and contact internal electric wiring. Friction and movement at that contact point can wear through the wire insulation, allowing electrical shorting that can ignite nearby combustibles in the engine bay. Reported field incidents at time of recall: none. The recall was preventive based on engineering review. ## What to do 1. Check your mower's model and serial number against the table above. 2. If your mower is in scope, **stop using it immediately**. 3. Contact Kubota Tractor Corporation at 1-800-4KUBOTA (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. PT) to schedule a free dealer inspection and repair. 4. Kubota was contacting all known purchasers directly at the time of recall. ## Hazard Severity is rated **critical** because the failure mode is a fire risk. Although no incidents had been reported, electrical shorting in close proximity to fuel components warrants the highest urgency. ## Source - Kubota Safety Notices page, "Zero Turn Mowers Safety Notice — Kubota Recalls Zero Turn Mowers Due to Fire Hazard." - CPSC: Kubota Recalls Zero Turn Mowers Due to Fire Hazard (Recall Alert), 2019. - Sold at authorized Kubota dealers nationwide from July 2018 to January 2019 for between $5,000 and $6,000. - Manufactured at Kubota Manufacturing of America Corporation, Gainesville, GA. ## Library notes This ZD100 series is the **gasoline residential** zero-turn line, distinct from the **diesel commercial** ZD1000/ZD1200 series (already in the library as ZD1011-54 and ZD1211-60). The naming convention overlap can be confusing — the Z121/Z122/Z125 prefix in the recall is a Kubota residential line, NOT a model_year code. All four affected models are added in this migration with model_series 'ZD100 Series' to distinguish them from the diesel ZD1000/ZD1200 commercial rows.
