## Affected machines
About 950 **Kawasaki FX850V-EFI** general-purpose engines installed in commercial-grade riding lawn mowers, sold June 2017 through August 2019. This bulletin covers the **Ferris portion** of the recall:
- Ferris IS 2100Z ZTR
The recall also covers Cub Cadet Pro Z 760 LKW EFI mowers with the same Kawasaki engine — that model is not in the TractorNuity library.
### Engine identification
"Kawasaki FX850V EFI" is printed on the **engine fan housing**. The engine model and serial number are also on the engine fan housing.
### Affected engine models and serial-number ranges
| Engine model | Engine serial range | Model year |
|---|---|---|
| FX850V-AS44 | FX850VB19736 – FX850VB44147 | 2017 |
| FX850V-AS47 | FX850VB20733 – FX850VB40776 | 2018 |
The recall is **engine-specific**, not mower-specific. Only Ferris IS 2100Z mowers fitted with a Kawasaki FX850V-EFI engine in the serial ranges above are affected.
## Issue
The **fuel injector** can leak excessive amounts of fuel into the engine. Excess fuel in the cylinder during operation creates conditions for hot exhaust components to ignite the fuel-rich mixture, producing burn and fire hazards.
Reported field incidents at time of recall: none. The recall was preventive based on Kawasaki's engineering review.
## What to do
1. Identify your engine model and serial number from the engine fan housing.
2. If your engine is in scope, **stop using the mower immediately**.
3. Contact Kawasaki Motors USA at (866) 836-4463 Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. ET to schedule a free repair, or check your local Kawasaki dealer.
4. Kawasaki was contacting all known purchasers directly at the time of recall.
## Hazard
Severity is rated **critical** because of the fire risk. Although no incidents had been reported, fuel injector failure on a high-output EFI engine is the kind of latent defect that warrants the highest urgency.
