Stihl SB 80 16-inch diamond abrasive wheel wobble / loss-of-control hazard recall

## Affected accessory This bulletin covers a Stihl **cut-off machine accessory wheel** rather than a powered tool: the 16-inch **SB 80** diamond abrasive cutting wheel, **part number 0835 090 2028**, sold since 2012. The label on affected wheels is printed with: - "STIHL" - Part number **0835 090 2028** - Model number **SB 80** - Wheel size **16 inches** ### Out of scope Other diameter sizes of SB 80 wheels are not affected. **16-inch SB 80 wheels with part number 0835 096 8000** are also **not affected** - the part number is the discriminator. ## Issue The wheel may **wobble for a brief period** while the cut-off machine is accelerating and the wheel first contacts the workpiece. Wobble at high RPM with the wheel under load creates two related hazards: - **Loss of control of the cut-off machine** by the operator. - **Reactive forces, including kickback**, that can drive the cutting head back toward the operator. ## What to do 1. Identify SB 80 cutting wheels by reading the label. 2. Check the part number. If it is **0835 090 2028**, the wheel is in scope. 3. **Stop using affected wheels.** 4.
