Polaris · 2018–2020 · Published
Polaris recall of ~80,000 MY2018-2020 Ranger XP 1000 and Crew XP 1000 ROVs (originally announced as Stop Ride/Stop Sale notices in 2019, later formalized) where the clutch belt can break and damage the secondary clutch and the fuel line, posing a fire hazard. ## Affected machines
This bulletin covers Polaris Ranger XP 1000 and Crew XP 1000 ROVs across two related defects, both fire-hazard.
### Recall scope
- **April 2020 main recall** (~80,000 units): MY 2018-2020 Ranger XP 1000 and Crew XP 1000.
- **April 2020 expansion** (~7,000 units): MY 2019-2020 Ranger XP 1000 and Crew XP 1000 with the fuel line misrouted above the protective bracket.
This recall is the formal CPSC follow-up to a series of **Stop Ride / Stop Sale notices** Polaris issued throughout 2019 covering the same defect class. (Polaris's pattern of using Stop Ride/Stop Sale notices in lieu of formal CPSC recall coordination on these and related defects was the subject of a $27 million civil penalty for late reporting.)
## Issue
Two related defect modes:
**Main recall**: The **clutch belt can break** during operation. A broken belt can damage the secondary clutch and, more critically, **damage the fuel line** that runs nearby, allowing fuel to leak. With a hot drivetrain in close proximity, the fuel leak creates a fire hazard.
**Expansion**: On a subset of MY2019-2020 units, the **fuel line was misrouted above the bracket** intended to protect it from a clutch belt failure. When the belt fails on these units, there is no protection against fuel-line damage.
## What to do
1. Verify the model year and VIN against Polaris's published affected list at https://www.polaris.com/en-us/off-road-recalls/.
2. **Stop using the ROV immediately.**
3. Contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair.
4. Polaris is contacting registered owners directly.
## Hazard
Severity is rated **critical** because of the fire risk from a damaged fuel line on a hot drivetrain.
