Generac and DR Power portable generator handle finger-amputation and crushing injury hazard (CPSC reannounced March 30, 2023)

Generac portable generator unlocked handle can pinch the user's fingers between the handle and the generator frame during transport, posing finger-amputation and crushing-injury hazards. Originally recalled in 2021; CPSC reannounced March 30 2023 because incidents continued and a new repair kit became available. As of the reannouncement: 37 reports of injuries including 24 finger amputations and 5 crushing injuries.

## Affected machines (Generac brand) This bulletin covers the Generac-brand units in the recall: - XT8000E - XT8000EFI - GP6500 - GP6500E - GP8000E - HomeLink 6500E Note: The DR Power-brand siblings (PRO 6500M, PRO 6500E) are covered by the same CPSC recall but are intentionally not attached here per the brand-specificity rule. They will be added in a future DR Power library migration when DR Power is on-boarded. ## Hazard If the generator handle is not locked into place before the unit is moved, the user''s fingers can be pinched between the handle and the generator frame, posing finger-amputation and crushing-injury hazards. ## Remedy Stop using the recalled generator and contact Generac for a free repair kit. The reannounced kit (March 2023) replaces the earlier kit with an improved design. Generac contact: 1-844-279-3338, Monday through Friday 8am-5pm CT. ## Reports (as of March 30 2023 reannouncement) - 37 injuries total - 24 finger amputations - 5 crushing injuries
