Generac · 2018–2022 · Published
Generac voluntary recall of approximately 53,000 US and 1,750 Canadian electric-start pressure washers because the electric start/stop button can malfunction and self-start the gasoline engine, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if the unit is in a confined space. 9 reports of self-starting; 0 injuries. CPSC Fast Track recall.
Details
## Affected machines (Generac brand)
This bulletin covers the Generac-brand units in the recall:
- G0071320 (3125 CON GAS PW ES CARB EPA3, 50-state)
- G0071321 (3125 CON GAS PW ES CARB EPA3, 49-state)
- G0071430 (3125 CON GAS PW ES SPEEDWASH CARB EPA3, 50-state)
- G0071431 (3125 CON GAS PW ES SPEEDWASH CARB EPA3, 49-state)
Note: The DR Power-brand siblings (DPW3100DEN, DPW3101DEN, DPW3102DEN) are covered by the same CPSC recall but are intentionally not attached here per the brand-specificity rule. They will be added in a future DR Power library migration when DR Power is on-boarded.
## Hazard
If the electrical contacts under the engine''s start/stop button cover are exposed to moisture, the button can activate without being pushed, causing the pressure washer to self-start. If the unit is in a confined space (garage, shed, indoor area) when this happens, exhaust gas including carbon monoxide can enter the living space.
## Remedy
Stop using the recalled pressure washer unless the rechargeable battery has been removed. Once the battery is removed, the unit can be started using the pull-start option without risk of self-starting. Contact Generac to arrange free replacement of the start/stop switch by an authorized dealer.
