John Deere X300 Select Series interlock module failure — blades may operate with no operator on seat (CPSC August 2006)

Voluntary recall of about 16,000 John Deere X300 Select Series lawn tractors built April-May 2006 with a manufacturing defect in the seat-switch interlock module circuit. If the module fails, mower blades can continue running with no operator on the seat, posing a laceration hazard. No incidents or injuries reported at time of recall.

## Affected machines
This recall covers John Deere X300 Select Series lawn tractors sold from April 2006 through May 2006 with the following model and serial number ranges:
- X300: M0X300A012380-012875, M0X300C020470-024949, M0X300D011842-012375
- X304: M0X304A013047-013964
- X320: M0X320A017344-020858
- X324: M0X324A012658-013220
- X340: M0X340A012667-013498
The serial number plate is located on the tractor frame just above the front wheel axle on the right side.
## Hazard
A manufacturing defect in the interlock module circuit can cause the module to fail. When it fails, the mower blades will continue to run with no operator on the tractor seat, posing a laceration hazard to bystanders.
## Remedy
Before operating, perform the safety system check found in the operator''s manual under "Operating - Testing Safety Systems." Whether the safety system passes or fails, contact a John Deere dealer to schedule installation of a new control module at no cost.
