Kawasaki voltage regulator failure in John Deere X350/X354/X370/X380/X384/X390/X394 service engines — fire and burn hazard (CPSC June 2024)

Kawasaki Motors USA recall (June 2024) of about 68,500 gas engines using the 21066-0785 voltage regulator. The regulator can overheat and ignite — including while the machine is stored — posing fire and burn hazards. Eight fires reported, no injuries. Affects model year 2021-2023 Kawasaki FJ400D/FS600V/FS651V/FX691V/FX730V/FX801V/FX850V/FXT00V engines, including service engines installed in John Deere X350R/X350/X354/X370/X380/X384/X390/X394 lawn tractors (model year 2016-2020 chassis).

Details

## Affected machines This recall covers Kawasaki FJ400D, FS600V, FS651V, FX691V, FX730V, FX801V, FX850V, and FXT00V engines (model year 2021-2023, recalled regulator part number 21066-0785). Among John Deere products, the affected service engines were installed in: - John Deere X350R, X350, X354, X370, X380, X384, X390, and X394 lawn tractors (model year 2016-2020 chassis) where the engine was replaced with one of the recalled service engines Engine model and serial numbers are stamped on the engine fan housing. Tractors with their original factory engines (not service-replaced) are not part of this recall. ## Hazard The 21066-0785 voltage regulator can overheat and ignite, including while the machine is in storage with the engine off. This can cause the engine to overheat and ignite surrounding components, posing fire and burn hazards. ## Remedy Stop using the machine immediately. Disconnect the battery.
