Details

CPSC recall 26-722, announced August 27, 2026, jointly with Health Canada. About 1,800 kits sold across the BigDog and Hustler brands. No incidents or injuries were reported at the time of the recall. Manufacturer: Excel Industries LLC of Hesston, Kansas (parent of BigDog Mower Co. and Hustler Turf Equipment). WHO THIS APPLIES TO: This recall covers an optional accessory, not the mower itself. It only applies if an OEM LED light kit was installed on your mower. Most BigDog mowers do not have one. This bulletin is attached to every BigDog zero-turn and stand-on model built 2020 or later because no fitment list for the BigDog kits is published. HOW TO CHECK: The kit is a black or yellow steel bracket mounted to the mower footrest at the front of the machine, holding two LED light bars as headlights. Each light bar is clear plastic, about 6 inches wide and 3/4 inch tall, with a white and a black wire ending in an orange plug. AFFECTED PART NUMBERS (from the Health Canada joint notice; the notice does not split them by brand): LED Light Bar, sold alone or in a kit: 605003 LED Light Kits: 121482, 121505, 126991, 126992, 126995, 126999, 127057, 127057P, 127928, 127928P Sold at BigDog and Hustler dealers nationwide and online through the brand accessory stores from April 2020 through July 2026, for roughly 180 to 330 dollars. HAZARD: The LED light bars can overheat or produce flames, creating a fire hazard. Health Canada attributes this to temporary voltage surges under certain unusual operating conditions. REMEDY: Stop using the LED light kit immediately and unplug the light bars. Contact the dealer you bought it from to have the kit removed and the light bars destroyed, and to receive a refund of the kit price (Health Canada notes installation labour is refunded too). The kit can be removed at the dealer or at your home. RELATED: The same recall covers Hustler mowers under a separate Hustler bulletin for CPSC 26-722.
